Kalyani is a seasoned Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) Officer with over 33 years of experience in governance, spanning key ministries including Defence, Telecom, Fertilizers, Finance, Social Justice and Empowerment, and Information and Broadcasting. In her various roles she strived to improve transparency in the delivery of public services through the use of technology. Her contribution in the phased implementation of direct benefit transfers for fertilizer subsidies started the direct benefit transfers in fertilizer subsidy in the Government of India. Apart from her outstanding work in the Government, she has driven transformative initiatives in the public sector through the introduction of online bill payments and bill payment kiosks at Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited. Her other public sector contribution includes the revival of Fertilizer Corporation of India Limited . Currently, she oversees the Budgeting and Accounting of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA), one of the largest Ministries of the Government of India. Further, in her role as Principal Chief Controller of Accounts she has helped develop the Government Land Management System (GLMS), an innovative asset management portal. The development of GLMS has led to more efficient management of land resources by the various land-owning entities within MHA and it has the potential to be be upgraded to cover the entire Government of India. .
